Well, it's been a long, long while. Young Brae about to embark on his
school life, and Case alredy fully entrenched.
They'll both be attending Marian School here in Hamiltron. It's a
Catholic school which is part of the reason behind this post.
At the dinner table last night Casey starting retelling one of my
favourite Bible classics where Jesus is observing people in the temple
putting money in the offering box. The rich men flamboyantly deposit
wads of notes and beat their chests generously as they approach the
alter to pray loud and pious. A little old lady in rags and bare feet
enters and puts a single coin in the box before sitting reverently at
the back of the church attending to her prayer.
Jesus explains to his disciples how the sacrifice of the lady is far
greater than the rich men.
We discuss this with Case to see if she understands the idea of the
relative sacrifice, in that the lady gave everything she had whereas for
the rich men it was mere showmanship. Casey thought and then replied:
"Yes, but she put the money in the poor box, so she's going to get it back anyway"!
