change to official birthday by need poll

some time last week I ripened just a wee bit more on the vine. And the very next day Brae added a whole half-a-life-time to his age ... paling my effort in to insignificance.

So, for this and a number of other reasons (including being able to make more of an ado for the young fellah on his day), I've decided to make an official move to the time that I celebrate my birthday - starting this year (no presents, please).

The clever bit to this comes from my long standing allegiance with the Queen (of england). All my life I have shared the same real birthday with her Majesty. So, although I'll still take on board the obligatory unwrapping of socks and undies on the 21st April all fuller celebrations will take place on Paul Kennett Queen's Birthday weekend. This ensures a holiday on the day (perhaps with the chance of not having to work, too!) and Braedan can concentrate on turning 4 all by himself next April 22nd.

Note to self: find out when Queen's Birthday weekend is.

balloons make breakfast hard to swallow

It's Balloons over Waikato time of year - I love it, mostly because I have a mental association with the balloons being about and crisp cloudless days that just feel great.

Today is no exception. The balloons came - the day is a beauty.

My only grumble about the day so far is that the wind direction put us directly in the flight path at 12 Avon St (seriously, looking up from the deck you could see the flames billowing in to the inner-canvas of the balloon). This meant that as about half of the 32 odd balloons (maybe that's 32 even) came over the house Case would run screaming and shrieking to the deck to update her tally - which got to about 20. Meanwhile, cereal and toast that was her breakfast took about an hour to be eaten.

I gather she made it to school eventually.
