Kiwis draw with Aussies in test cricket...

And what a match!

After having our arses seriously kicked through the one day series (Aus 5 : NZ 0) we crumbled to a humilating defeat in the first test.

The second test was different though. Right from the toss we knew we had a better chance - because the toss was on day two, thanks to bad weather. And, when the rain continued to come and go - soaking up half of the allowable cricket time - a draw seemed almost likely. Phew, a massive 350 runs behind on the follow-on and 3 quick wickets down, the rain gods saved the day.

I'm a reasonably good armchair cricket critique (10 times fast) - always able to pick a good or bad lb decision with the frame-by-frame, stumps drawn in replay ... which leaves me in pretty good stead to say: "the Aussies played poorly". Their main error was batting too long in the first (and their only) innings before declaring. Had it not been for letting two of their batsmen individually amass nearly as much as the NZ team's first innings, and even worse, had warne not been given the opportunity to (successfully) record another test 50, had they declared 17 minutes earlier from their already insurmountable total, then they would have had enough time to wipe out our last 7 wickets. Maybe 17 minutes is a bit harsh. But anyway black caps, congratulations on a well drawn test. !

Keep up the rain dance lessons.

It's the winning...

Little Case ran her legs of for 8.42 seconds and righted the balance of last week's non-placement.  She was pretty excited to have won the 40m dash - but still really only focused on sausages and soda to cap off the event.
